eyes without a facebook
I just saw a comment on a friend’s facebook wall from a girl he tried to set me up with about three years ago. Apparently she’s moved to London and is getting married soon. Her picture looked great, but I couldn’t really remember much about her. Or why I didn’t pursue her.
I went back into my gmail account and searched for her name to try to ring some bells. Here’s a summary of what happened.
September 2004: Mutual friend sends us both an email introducing us.
4 days later: Girl says hi, i say hi back, make some jokes
Next day: Girl jokes back, asks me if i’m free on the coming long weekend.
3 weeks later: I email back and say that there was a fire at my office (there was! but it’s not like i didn’t have email access), apologize. lay down the smooth line “if you want to grab a drink sometime let me know.”
Next day: she says she’s away for work, suggests either meeting up on sunday or the following week for a drink.
[As far as I can tell, I never responded to that email. But to be fair, i had never met her before and kind of hate meeting people totally blindly]
February 2005: Our mutual friend comes to visit, we head to Freeman’s for dinner. She meets us after dinner for some drinks. I don’t remember any major chemistry between us, but I do remember that she was quite pretty and had a really great laugh.
February 9: She emails to say she had a great time, thanks for drinks. Includes her number and suggests that I call her
February 15: I email back and say that I haven’t checked my email in a while (wtf is that?) ask if she’s free on the coming weekend.
February 16: she’s in mexico for the week, and suggests we chat when she’s back on Sunday (Feb 20th). [I don’t think I called her on Sunday]
February 24: she emails again and asks what I’m up to for the weekend.
February 25: I say no major plans, have to do some work. Will call you tomorrow.
[That was the end of it. I never called her and that was that.]
Let’s break this down by the numbers:
Number of times she asked me out/opened the door for me to ask her: 3
Number of times I asked her out: 1 (not in direct response to her suggestions)
Number of times I called her: 0
Number of times we went out: 0
Number of other dates I went out during that time period: 0 (as far as i can tell)
Lesson learned?
I’m a bit of a moron.
