I recently discovered Charlie Brooker’s excellent columns and shows online, and can’t stop reading and watching them both. Sure, he’s negative, but there’s a hell of a lot out there to be negative about. It’s also great that the only unequivocally positive thing of his that I’ve come across is his review of The Wire.
But the first segment of his that I saw was a skewering of My Super Sweet 16. He picked the episode that most repulsed me, in which a young brat screams and swears at her all-too-accommodating mother for having the gall to give her a $70,000 Lexus THE DAY BEFORE HER PARTY!!!! (“YOU RUINED MY LIFE!!!!”) An absolutely disgusting display, which seriously made me question what our society’s unbridled materialism is doing to the young generation, and share in Charlie’s wish for a nuclear holocaust.
Fortunately, I came across this video today, and it couldn’t have been more timely. Sometimes it’s nice to be reminded that not everything and everyone completely sucks.
