one-twenty-five: wouldn’t it be nice to be able to look in the mirror each morning and be inspired by yourself? be inspired to eat well and not just sit on your butt all day, as apposed to reading weight loss magazines, weight loss blogs, weight loss stories, stories about other people finding inspiration through… Opposed. The word is opposed.

Met an Indian girl online who I’ve been out with a couple of times.  Last time we had dinner, I told her about how I’ve only been to India once for three weeks, how I didn’t like it, and how I don’t really speak the language at all.  She responded with a lecture about how “there’s nothing sadder” than an Indian person who’s lost touch with their...

It bothers me that a guy as funny and talented as Russell Brand will likely be known to most people outside of the UK as “the guy with the long hair that married Tits McGee”.

3 miles last night
Comfortably, and in less than 30 minutes.  Ran most of it at about 6.6 mph, then picked it up to 7.0, then 7.6 mph for the last half-mile.  No knee pain, either.  Half-marathon training continues! I remember reading a quote last year about “giving yourself permission to be fast.”  When you’re used to being a bigger dude (as I was most definitely), you get used to plodding. ...

Last night
Early dinner meant no Bikram Yoga. Got home to find my headphones busted, so i went on a quick shopping trip to buy some. Got back And got ready to hit the gym at about 10pm. Closed due to holiday hours. Came back home and changed into my winter running gear- hat, gloves, tights(!) thermal shirt and my new jacket. Ran 3.75 miles at 11 pm in the cold Toronto night. And That, my friends, is...

Friend: On July 24, me & some girls are going out after the Depeche Mode concert. You want to join?
Me: I am indeed. You know that I "Just Can't Get Enough" of such a "Black Celebration." In fact, it was only "A Question of Time" until I partied down again. In keeping with my "Policy of Truth" I must also point out that I will endeavour to "Shake the Disease" that currently plagues me so that I am fully healthy for said night out. (Also, it will give me "Something To Do.") BTW, People Are People.
Friend: On second thought, never mind.

Ohhhhhhhhhh. Now I get it. Thanks, CNN!
A man identified as an Iraqi journalist threw shoes at — but missed — President Bush during a news conference Sunday evening in Baghdad, where Bush was making a farewell visit. In Arab culture, throwing shoes at someone, or sitting so that the bottom of a shoe faces another person, is considered an insult. full story

The Zit Remedy must have gotten tons of that Canadian 80s poon after this performance.  And for those of you who didn’t watch, the answer to the question at the end of the clip is:  “FUCK YES.”  Then she has a miscarriage in the gym.

Dude! Is that a Jarlsberg? Fuckin' A!!!
From a NYTimes article about some douchebag hipster farmers:  The Billyburg scene has changed, said Annaliese Griffin, who contributes to a blog called Grocery Guy. “Having a cool cheese in your fridge has taken the place of knowing what the cool band is, or even of playing in that band,” she said. “Our rock stars are ricotta makers.”  Riiiiiight.  I bought a packet of BabyBels the other day, and...

Shame on you for eating.
Obviously the headline is meant to be smarmy.  But can’t you just say no to having a table bestowed upon you?  The man is free to do what he likes, but when he’s made a series specifically to expose the ludicrousness of fame and its trappings that included a multi-scene piss-take of the lunch scene at The Ivy… well, I guess it just seems a little inconsistent to me. One of the...

I just saw a comment on a friend’s facebook wall from a girl he tried to set me up with about three years ago.  Apparently she’s moved to London and is getting married soon.  Her picture looked great, but I couldn’t really remember much about her.  Or why I didn’t pursue her. I went back into my gmail account and searched for her name to try to ring some bells....

Through The Wire (no spoilers. promise.)
[appy-polly-logies for the long post]  This Sunday night, the final episode of The Wire will air.  Even if you don’t watch the show, by now you probably have some vague idea that it’s set in Baltimore, is gritty, real, and smart.  While many of my friends and scores of critics adore the show, it has failed to catch on in the same way that The Sopranos did.  Instead of challenging a new...

So tonight’s LOST was an absolute mindfuck, but in the most pleasant way imaginable.  Best episode of this season so far.  Time travel, Scottish accents and, of course, true love.  My head is completely spinning. I’ve always loved the Desmond/Penny storyline. If I have a small gripe, it’s that Penny didn’t answer the phone call she had been awaiting for EIGHT FREAKING YEARS...

Watched a rerun of Britney’s 2000 appearance on SNL tonight.  (Yes, ladies- my social life is that exciting).  It’s strange to see her as the world saw her back then.  She had just released Oops, I Did It Again and was clearly at the top of her game looks-wise.  Incredible to think that she’s fallen harder than Danza on rollerblades since then. I recently discovered Charlie Brooker’s excellent columns and shows online, and can’t stop reading and watching them both.  Sure, he’s negative, but there’s a hell of a lot out there to be negative about.  It’s also great that the only unequivocally positive thing of his that I’ve come across is his review of The Wire. But the first segment of his that I saw was...

BWE’s post on the funniest anti-drug ads ever is pretty dead on. As I’ll be moving back to Canada soon, I need to practice my “What about us?”, so here’s a Canadian anti-drug ad which always cracked me up: If I knew how, I would definitely make a Baltimore club version of this track.  It’s practically crying out for one.

"The Upside to the Downside" →
Joel Lovell’s article is definitely a little naive.  But it comes from a good place.  As a lawyer-turned-?, I relate to his friend Kim’s sentiment that coming to terms with living in NYC for the last 6 years has been a lot like acknowledging my own Christmas indulgence.  And that nagging feeling is one of the reasons I’m leaving.    I don’t see the coming downturn as being...
